Elements
WILDERNESS PROGRAM

PBJ/Wilderness4life is proud to partner with Elements Wilderness Program!

Change in Action- Experience what makes Elements different. An experience that’s all about adolescent boys and the families who love them.

We believe raising a teenage boy should be equal parts challenging and rewarding. At Elements, your son is more than a client, more than a number. He is the reason we do what we do.

Your son will have an incredible experience.

We live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Wilderness is the purest setting for your son to drop his defenses, find his purpose, and a way back to his family and health. The best way to optimize each minute of the journey is to keep that journey intact. Our expansive and beautiful course area allows us to bring to him the opportunities for incredible adventures like climbing, rappelling, canyoneering, and low-ropes activities.

Family is the most important part of this process. We provide opportunities for families to be involved along every step of the way, and provide an extensive menu of opportunities for families to join their boys in person and forge a new future together. Your family will feel at home with us. We are purposefully small

Wilderness therapy is most effective when run by a small, owner-operated system. We truly love what we do.

We provide intervention, treatment, and assessment. Our job is to interrupt maladaptive and self-destructive behaviors, help our boys develop a new path forward, and provide everyone in the picture a real assessment of his needs so the next steps can be planned accordingly.

True North
Wilderness Program

PBJF IS PROUD TO PARTNER WITH TRUE NORTH WILDERNESS PROGRAM!!!

Welcome to True North…

Madhurii Barefoot, LCSW and Ty Maves, LCSW began their careers as field guides for a well-known therapeutic wilderness program almost 20 years ago, and their passion for working with struggling teens in the outdoors was born. Establishing this program was their way of coming home and finding their True North. They are thrilled to be able to introduce their students and their families to the incredible beauty and unique culture of life in the Green Mountains of Vermont. It is their goal to provide an inspiring experience that will be a cornerstone for positive change.

True North Philosophy
  • Accepting only students who are appropriate for the program and group
  • Providing an environment that is challenging and supportive and never punitive
  • Limiting group size (no more than 7) for maximum individual attention
  • An average length of stay (10-12 weeks) that allows for deep and lasting change

Adolescent Program: Ages 14-17
Adolescents face many pressures that undermine their self-esteem and negatively impact their lives and relationships. Families choose True North because they want their child to be in a safe and supportive environment where they can address struggles, build confidence, and prepare for a successful future.

Through a combination of focused therapy, daily goal-setting, and powerful outdoor experiences, adolescents are challenged to understand themselves better and work toward positive individualized change.

Young Adult Program: Ages 18 – 25
Young adults face external challenges and internal struggles that can make it difficult to navigate over or around the bumps in the road to independence. Young adults and their families choose True North because they want to learn how to cope with life’s challenges and chart the course for a successful and independent future.

As young adults work together to plan and participate in adventure, service, and therapeutic activities, they build confidence, develop internal motivation, and improve their relationships with themselves and others.

- Trails -
Carolina
PBJF IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE ITS NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH
TRAILS CAROLINA WILDERNESS THERAPY PROGRAM!!!

At Trails Carolina, our wilderness therapy program’s mission is to give your child the confidence, coping mechanisms, and communication skills that will help them become the best version of themselves. Throughout our wilderness program, families restore and rebuild their relationship with their child.

We believe that by connecting with nature in a wilderness therapy setting, your child can learn to address their problematic behaviors, gain valuable personal insights, and learn important lessons. Free from the distractions and negative influences of everyday life, they can focus on their own personal growth and healing process.

Our multidisciplinary team of caring, expert staff will be there to guide your child along their unique path to psychological and emotional wellness. This journey can lead to a renewed sense of self and a happier, healthier future brimming with opportunity.

Trails Carolina is a proven leader in wilderness therapy. When your child enters into our care, they’ll be enrolled in a multidimensional therapy program that combines the best of wilderness therapy with a base camp environment that brings academic rigor and mirrors everyday life. Combined with our focus on family involvement, this helps to produce lasting, positive change that restores strained relationships.

Transition Programming
Unfortunately, many therapy programs fail to create lasting change in students once they return to the home environment. While a remote environment can be great to disconnect from negative behavior triggers, it’s important that we prepare your child to return home. Specially Designed Groups to Meet Your Child’s Individual Needs. Boys 10-13, Boys 14-17, Girls 10-13, Girls 14-17 and CO-ED 18-25.

NATSAP!
National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs

PBJ Foundation is proud to partner with NATASAP!!

PBJF is proud to partner with NATSAP and their beautiful vision “of a nation of healthy children” NATSAP is “the voice inspiring, nurturing and advancing the courageous work of our schools and programs”

What is NATSAP?

The National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) was created in January of 1999 to serve as a national resource for programs and professionals assisting young people beleaguered by emotional and behavioral difficulties. The NATSAP website serves as a resource of information about their organization and the members it serves.

Their members include therapeutic schools, residential treatment programs, wilderness programs, outdoor therapeutic programs, young adult programs and home-based residential programs working with troubled teens and troubled adolescents. All are working through NATSAP to make sure our industry provides the highest quality services to the young people and families they serve.

The Association is governed by an elected, volunteer Board of Directors comprised of representatives from the NATSAP membership. NATSAP requires the members of their organization to be licensed by the appropriate state agency authorized to set and oversee standards of therapeutic and/or behavioral healthcare for youth and adolescents or accredited by a nationally recognized behavioral health accreditation agency and to have therapeutic services with oversight by a qualified clinician. NATSAP and its members have been working with their state legislatures to ensure the appropriate licensure and regulation of programs and schools that serve children and adolescents.

Summit Achievement
PBJ Foundation is proud to partner with Summit Achievement!!!

Summit Achievement is an adventure-based wilderness therapy program that combines the best features of a wilderness program and special-needs therapeutic boarding school by integrating a residential milieu, traditional academic instruction, weekly outdoor expeditions and therapeutic services. Summit Achievement serves adolescents aged 13 to 20 from around the world. Typically our students may be experiencing difficulty within their family, school, and/or personal lives.

Adventure experiences take students out of their comfort zone and familiar environments by immersing them in unfamiliar backcountry settings. Through a series of activities that are demanding physically, mentally, and emotionally, students quickly learn that old ways of coping are ineffective when pitted against the challenges and consequences of nature. Through the shared experiences on expedition, students build relationships with staff and fellow students. Working together to overcome obstacles builds trust and provides the emotional safety needed for students to feel comfortable sharing their story and their feelings. This emotional safety also creates an environment in which students are more open to hearing constructive feedback about their behavior, choices, or treatment of others.

The mission of Summit Achievement is “to foster lasting change for students and families using residential treatment, classroom academics, and outdoor adventures in an evidence-based and clinically-driven community.” We try to live and breathe this mission everyday in the work we do with youth and families.
